The story takes place in Hongqi Town, a southern industrial and mining town famous for producing nonferrous metals. With a population of 50,000, almost everyone in town has some connection to the mines. Told in the third person through the memories of Lin Hao, a young boy from a miner's family, the novel recounts his childhood in the mining town and the many changes he witnessed. The era of mass production gradually fades away, while corruption, waves of layoffs, the rise of criminal gangs, and a series of murders shroud the once-thriving town in mystery. Lin Hao's memories are like a key, slowly unlocking the secrets and truth hidden in the mining town.
