A Criminal Investigation Record [Based on True Cases]

Rain pattered down over Jinyin City, and a piercing scream rang out from an alley. In the autumn of 1978, a string of murders began here. An unseen hand reached out to victimize the innocent.

Police station captain Zhao Guang and deputy captain Song Ci stood at the scene of the third murder. The rain washed over the ground and the blood, but it could not wash away their determination to solve the case. Forensic doctor Yang Jian and his assistant Chen Chuang searched the devastated scene for evidence: a scarred fingerprint, the killer’s bodily fluids...

By 1982, seven people had been murdered. All the victims were women, and each had been dressed in red. The youngest was only eight. Fingers severed, tongues cut out, noses sliced off, abdomens slit open...

The furious voices of the police rang through the storm: “Every murder will be solved! Every murder will be solved!”

But in the darkness, a pair of eyes watched and waited for the next rainy night, ready to reach out with that unseen hand once more.

“I’m Song Ci, not the Song Ci who was a forensic doctor in the Southern Song dynasty. We don’t do the same kind of work.”

“My name is Zhao Guang. I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but I’m strong!”

“I’m Yang Jian. When I was a child, I dreamed of becoming a doctor.”

“My name is Chen Chuang, and I’m Yang Jian’s assistant. They all say we’re the Howling Celestial Dog duo.”

Being a police officer isn’t some cushy job. It means putting your life on the line. Each of them has one unshakable conviction: “Every murder must be solved!”
