Watching the Clouds and Fish

I was once a vine. Touched by divine power, I gained human awareness. Unable to ascend to heaven or descend to the underworld, I could only wander between the two, becoming an anomaly in this world.

I could neither become a god nor be human.

I envied the carefree people of this world, and I envied the all-powerful gods in the heavens.

I liked staying in this dilapidated house where the great goddess Nuwa had once lived. From there, I could watch the clouds over the mountaintop and the fish in the water below.

High above the peak, the clouds concealed the ancient celestial capital, which I could quietly gaze up at. The river below was clear as a mirror, and all I had to do was sit quietly on its bank.

I am a demon, dreaming that one day I might ascend to heaven. I am a demon, dreaming that one day I might become human. So I gave myself a human name: Guanyun Yu.
