My mom is a saint.
She took in my maternal grandfather, who had abandoned her years ago, and cared for him at home.
Just two days after he arrived, he sold the cats I'd raised for years to a cat dealer and used the money to gamble.
When I confronted him, Mom took his side.
"They're just two cats. How can you talk to an elder like that?"
My grandfather also took advantage of Mom's saintly image and acted without restraint.
"I've told you before, you shouldn't spoil girls. With a temper like yours, what man will want you? If she won't listen, just beat her. How dare she talk to an elder like that over a pair of beasts?"
Later, he told me he'd found the cat dealer and asked me to come look for the cats.
I rushed over and nearly got violated.
When I returned and confronted my grandfather, Mom still took his side.
"He's your grandfather. How could he possibly do something like that?"
Later, I made a scene. Mom threatened to kill herself, and in the ensuing scuffle, my grandfather deliberately pushed me off the rooftop.
When I opened my eyes again, it was the day before Mom planned to bring Grandpa home for the New Year.
