No one knows that my hearing is exceptionally good. I can hear birds flapping their wings in the sky, and make out what people are whispering about in the distance. That night, I heard those sounds coming from that place again.
First came Lin Qian'an's sobs. She begged the director to let her go, saying she was scared. The director told her she was sick and that one injection would make her better, as long as she behaved. Then Lin Qian'an's pleas grew fainter, until all that remained was the rustle of fabric and the clink of metal. Much later, I heard a car engine start, followed by the sound of the courtyard gate opening and closing.
Every so often, a student would disappear from the institution. The night before each disappearance, I would hear those sounds coming from the most secluded room there. I knew something was happening, but I was powerless to stop it. All I could do was feel guilty, then pretend I knew nothing.
It seems that no one has discovered this book yet, I must be the first 🤭 It's quite good-looking. The heroine is very powerful and thoughtful. I was moved to tears at the end.
