[Song Wutong: My half-sister wants me dead, so this highborn lady rebels against her family and goes on a rampage] Song Wutong spent sixteen years following the rules, but her half-sister tried to kill her so she could marry a “good” man. Luckily, Gu Dao, a woman who cultivates the Dao, saved her. Her family even wanted her to tolerate it all to protect their reputation. Wutong decided she was done playing along. She escaped that prison and set off to see the world with Gu Dao, whom she had only just met. Turns out, once Song Wutong ventured out, she discovered that life is wide open: friendship, love, and a career were all within her grasp.
[Gu Dao: A Dao cultivator transmigrates to an ordinary world without spiritual energy to cultivate, but it's no big deal] Gu Dao had cultivated immortality for three hundred years before a lightning tribulation struck her into another world, one devoid of spiritual energy. She casually saved Song Wutong, who had nearly been killed by her half-sister, and used up the last of her spiritual power. She'd worry about what came next later. Turns out, after Gu Dao gave up her prescribed path of cultivation, she discovered that life was wide open. So this is another way to practice the Dao!
[Qi Zhangfu: He only wanted to play a supporting role, but when he gets caught up in a conspiracy, he has no choice but to fight back] For the first eighteen years of Qi Zhangfu's life, he'd been taught to serve his country and its people, supporting his father and older brother in securing the realm. After a chance encounter with Song Wutong, the two of them discovered that the court was hiding all sorts of secrets. He was fed up. He didn't want to be a pawn anymore. Turns out, after Qi Zhangfu fought back, he discovered that life was wide open, and the rules of the game could be rewritten.
