Murder on a Rainy Night

A murder takes place in an old mansion in the dead of night. After escaping legal punishment, the killer doesn't stop committing crimes.

As criminal investigator Wu Chenfeng works the case, he encounters one obstacle after another, and the trail keeps going cold. But with dogged determination and keen insight, he gradually narrows down the suspects. His opponent, however, always finds clever ways to create an alibi, leaving Wu Chenfeng in a bind.

While providing counseling to a witness connected to the case, Zhang Yue unexpectedly discovers a few clues that may be linked to the killer. The killer also senses danger closing in and tries to cloud her judgment, but gradually develops complicated feelings for Zhang Yue without realizing it.

As the investigation deepens, Wu Chenfeng discovers that the killer's crimes seem to follow a particular pattern. He delves into the killer's past, hoping to uncover the motive and find a weakness. At last, he learns that the killer suffered severe psychological trauma, the root of the crimes. More secrets come to light, but just as the investigation is about to make a major breakthrough, an unexpected incident brings the police's progress to a standstill.

This is a contemporary realist novel with no supernatural or fantasy elements. Readers are invited to reflect on the characters and the novel's portrayal of human nature.
