Lu Zhishen was arranged by Taishang Laojun to practice in Lingshan Mountain in the west because of causing trouble in the Heavenly Palace. However, he was demoted to earth by the Buddha through conspiracy. Then Lu Zhishen, Tang Monk, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie and others embarked on the journey to the West to learn scriptures. On the way, they experienced numerous hardships and dangers, encountered numerous demons and ghosts, and gradually uncovered the terrifying conspiracy hidden behind them.
In the end, Lu Zhishen succeeded in climbing Lingshan Mountain with his firm belief and extraordinary courage. Buddha abdicated and Lu Zhishen succeeded him, creating a legend.
