[A florid, melodramatic literary romance] [Two male leads + devoted to each other + past and present lives + tragic love]
For readers who enjoy a romantic, beautiful, introspective story.
High school student Xia Yu lives in an ancient city on the frontier, enjoying a carefree life with his archaeologist father. During the summer break of his sophomore year, a boy named Lin Xi arrives from the United States to conduct archaeological research with Xia Yu's father, and stays at Xia Yu's home for a month. As they spend their days together, Xia Yu develops unexpected feelings for Lin Xi.
As the archaeological project progresses and a general's tomb is excavated, a story from a thousand years ago, rooted in this land, gradually comes to light. While researching the ancient city, Lin Xi stumbles upon a tangled romance between General Jiang Xi and his deputy, Bei Mo. As time turns and history repeats itself, he seems to glimpse the tragic fate awaiting him and Xia Yu.
When the excavation ends, Lin Xi returns to the United States and cuts off all contact with Xia Yu. Seven years later, he dies, leaving Xia Yu a notebook from the time of the excavation.
The moment Xia Yu opens the notebook, he finally understands: Lin Xi's arrival was a brief, dazzling interlude, a journey to fulfill a thousand-year-old promise and realize General Jiang Xi's long-cherished wish.
