This is truly a palace-centered story, with characters introduced in sequence but no hierarchy of importance. Emperor Yanping has no favorites at the beginning, and may not love anyone in the end, either. Emotions drive the story forward, layer by layer. There are no golden fingers, only choices shaped by each person's nature.
