I dreamed once in this mortal world,
of towering pavilions and mighty city walls, of passionate young nobles and gallant warriors;
of tender affection and old debts to home and country,
in dreams within dreams, of sorrow and glory in turn.
I dreamed once in this mortal world,
of the bright moon over the Eastern Sea and eagles soaring above the Western Hills, of war smoke in the Southlands and pastures on the northern frontier;
of steadfast loyalty and the helpless pain of parting,
in dreams within dreams, a little blood and tears, a little madness.
I dreamed once in this mortal world,
turning and wandering through no more than a few years, while love and hate flowed on with time;
the sun rose and the moon set, spring rain fell and autumn leaves turned gold. In dreams within dreams, I dreamed once more.
