Long ago, after using his magical ability to grow to the size of heaven and earth to capture the Bull Demon King, Sun Wukong hurried toward Mount Ling. But the Tathagata suddenly turned on him, producing the Six-Eared Macaque, whom he had previously faked the death of, and using the Buddhist holy relic, the Golden Begging Bowl, to suppress Wukong once again.
Three hundred years later, Daoist Lu Ya traveled through the Three Realms and discovered that Buddhism had long since poisoned the world. He tracked down Wukong, imprisoned by the Tathagata, and rescued him. He also taught Wukong the Thirty-Six Celestial Transformations and the Daoist holy relic, the Immortal-Slaying Flying Knife, hoping this would thwart Buddhism's ambition to seize control of the Three Realms.
After escaping, Wukong pieced together what had happened and swore that he would tear down Mount Ling in this lifetime, eradicate Buddhism, and defend the Dao!
