Chen Youde was a miserable wage slave, squeezed dry by his boss and worked overtime until his eyes blurred. Who would have thought that he would close his eyes one day, open them again, and find himself in the underworld of the Primordial World as a soul-catching emissary? Well, at least it was a "secure government job."
On his first assignment, he looks at the drifting ghost and feels his heart sink. Trembling, he swings out his soul-catching rope and mutters, "Hey, buddy, work with me here. I'm new too, and we're both having a rough time." The ghost glances at him, seemingly mocking his clumsiness.
When he returns to the underworld to file his report, he argues with Judge Cui: "Sir, could you reimburse my travel expenses? I had to chase that ghost a long way, and I wore out my shoes." Judge Cui glares at him. "Since when does the underworld have a rule like that?" Chen Youde pouts and mutters under his breath, "The benefits here are worse than at my last company."
Still, Chen Youde has his own ways of having fun. He boasts to the little ghosts about modern human technology, leaving them completely stunned. Sometimes he sneaks over to the River of Forgetfulness and watches the souls who refuse to drink the soup. With a sigh, he tells them, "Buddy, drink up and get reincarnated sooner. It's no picnic working in the underworld!" And so Chen Youde begins a chaotic yet unexpectedly eventful working life in the underworld of the Primordial World.
