This Monk Just Wants a Government Job

[Journey to the West] [Civil Service Exams] [System Upgrade Progression] [A Satisfying Reversal]

Tang Xuanzang, courtesy name Sanzang, is a modern office worker who has failed the civil service exam three times and died suddenly while eating instant noodles in his rented apartment. When he opens his eyes, he has become the most dashing man in Chang'an City: the revered Imperial Brother, a holy monk. Before he can enjoy his wealth and status, reality gives him a rude awakening: the greatest ambition of the gods and demons in this world is also to pass the civil service exam!

Just as he fears being crushed to death by the rat race, the Westward Journey Civil Service Exam System binds to him! “Ding! S+ level civil service project detected: Journey to the West, special recruitment channel. Accept?” Accept! Of course he’ll accept! It’s his only chance to land a golden job at the Buddha level!

From then on, Tang Xuanzang’s goal is no longer to save all living beings, but to secure a government post! To build the ultimate civil service team, he digs Sun Wukong, chief combat consultant, out from beneath Five Elements Mountain; recruits Zhu Bajie, chief networking expert, from Gao Village; and fishes Sha Wujing, chief administrative assistant, out of Flowing Sand River.

While other demons are still fighting tooth and nail for a government post atop some little mountain, Tang Xuanzang and his “dream team” are already crushing the competition with their superior methods:

“White Bone Spirit? A fantastic pressure interviewer!”

“The Kingdom of Women? Just a major test of conduct and integrity!”

“Lion Camel Ridge? Oh, the final joint interview with the three state-owned enterprise giants? We know the drill!”

What he doesn’t realize is that behind this civil service journey lies a shocking power struggle between the Heavenly Court and Mount Lingshan over “institutional reform”…
