He Was in His Prime When He Smiled

Years later, Jiang Xi returned to this city, which held so many memories, with a friend.

The person beside her brushed the wind-tossed hair from her face, eyes full of concern, then asked softly, “Xixi, do you regret loving someone so passionately and recklessly back then?”

Jiang Xi’s eyes dimmed. The memories, brilliant as fireworks bursting into the sky before fading away, exploded in her heart.

As the world changed beyond recognition, they had eventually gone their separate ways.

The wind slipped inside her collar. She took a deep breath, as if swallowing the bitterness and longing of those memories all at once.

After a long while, a relieved smile curved her lips. “I don’t regret it. That passion and love were the most beautiful gifts of youth. Even if things didn’t end perfectly, they were still enough to sustain me for a lifetime. Like a meteor streaking across the night sky: brief, but dazzling.”
