Can people with unhappy childhoods really not have a stable life or even a decent future?
The story's heroine, Lü Xiaomeng, refuses to give up. She loses battle after battle, but keeps getting back up to fight again. Defeat does not make her braver, but she still keeps going.
After 21 months of unemployment, a career agency helps her land a job as a restaurant server.
But things still don't go smoothly. She was promised a monthly salary of 4,000 yuan, but during one shift, a table of customers skips out without paying. According to the restaurant's rules, when customers leave without paying, all the employees on duty that day have their wages docked to cover the bill.
Would you believe it? She works overnight on New Year's Day with no holiday, and after a whole month she takes home just 3,889 yuan, not even the basic salary she was promised.
Worse still, she has to work through the Spring Festival without a holiday. With students flooding in to work, the regular employees get fewer shifts. She works throughout the holiday, only to receive 2,718 yuan for her second month's pay. It keeps getting lower, nowhere near the salary she was originally promised.
And that's not all. Under pressure, the supervisor threatens the employees every day, telling them they can't do their jobs properly and that the company will just hire robots and fire them all...
To her surprise, one day Lü Xiaomeng discovers that she has been removed from the company group chat. She really has been laid off again. She is also told that she must return her uniform... What is going on? There is only one thing to do: seek justice through the law...
