That day, Lin Yu, the hard-working genius and top student of the six-year program at Emerald Alchemy Academy, was asked by a junior student to share a few quick memorization tricks with the first-year apprentices in the great hall.
"The Poto memorization method?"
"Which sage invented this? Why can't I find any record of it?"
"No, it's the wisdom of ordinary people!"
"Ordinary people? Heh."
"If the top student doesn't want to tell us, fine. But why make up something even slimes wouldn't believe?"
"We mages have our own methods. We don't need you."
A fellow apprentice stepped forward. He extended the three tiny hands on his chest, thrust them backward into his stomach, and pulled out a lump of pink, gelatinous tissue that was still twitching.
It was unmistakably a flesh slime. Perhaps to prove that slimes really didn't believe Lin Yu's nonsense, the apprentice chanted a spell with a wonderfully rhythmic lilt.
The flesh slime seemed delighted by the chant, but soon grew frustrated that it couldn't dance along. It vibrated and let out a piercing shriek.
Hearing the sound, the first-year apprentices all began waving their arms and dancing. They became extra limbs for the lump of tissue, dancing on its behalf.
"I can do it without you!"
"What do you think of my wizard's brain? This is a body-modification technique passed down from ancient times."
"How does it compare to your ordinary people's wisdom?"
Lin Yu saw the madness in his eyes, and the guards arriving at the sound.
"He's questioning you! According to the rules, you have to prove you're right, or you'll lose your title as top student."
"Prejudice is a mountain in the human heart. If he won't learn, that's his loss."
"I'm about to apply for graduation. Let him be."
