Earth is an experimental specimen kept by an advanced extraterrestrial civilization. Otherwise, how can we explain why humans exist on one of the countless tiny planets out there? A planet as suitable for human habitation as Earth is incredibly hard to find. The Moon and the Sun both play their part: one blocks impacts from other celestial bodies, while the other provides light. This living environment seems almost deliberately designed, much like the homes and kennels we provide for dogs. Inspired by this idea, I came up with this story. Ellen is an emissary of an advanced civilization. Armed with the technology and wisdom of an advanced civilization, she comes to save humanity on Earth.
