I Love Winter, and I Love You

I met the best girl at the best age of my life,

but in the bloom of my youth, how could I withstand the summer blazing in her eyes?

Later, I became a quiet patch of shade beneath a tree,

while passersby always asked,

why this shadow

held the secret of sunlight at nineteen,

The heat she stirred up as she turned away

scorched every love confession I left unspoken

It turns out some kinds of radiance melt you when you get too close.
