[A resilient orphan girl vs. a deputy commander with a bad reputation] Revenge + both are each other’s first + emotional push and pull

After both her parents die one after the other, Jiang Zhao is forced to pack her things and head to the capital to seek refuge with her maternal relatives.

A torrential downpour leaves her with no choice but to spend the night in the City God Temple.

After arriving in the capital, Jiang Zhao intends to keep her head down and live cautiously in her relatives’ home. But she accidentally discovers that her parents were wrongfully killed.

To keep her relatives from being dragged into the trouble, she takes up a blade and becomes the executioner herself.

Pei Yanjie spends a night at the City God Temple. When he returns to his residence, he discovers that whenever he falls asleep, his soul seems to drift into someone else’s body.

At first, he watches her endure humiliation at the hands of noblewomen without fighting back.

Later, he watches her sit at a table, weeping as she misses her parents.

After these inexplicable supernatural occurrences stop, he discovers her secret. Seeing how difficult things are for her, he offers a helping hand, but she shakes her head. “Thank you for your kindness, sir.”

And later...

With her revenge complete, Jiang Zhao keeps it from everyone, quietly packs her bags, and boards a carriage home.

As she passes the City God Temple, a figure leans against the doorway and says softly, “How heartless. Aren’t you going to take me with you?”
