1. Liu An
- Liu An has an unusual background. He was found by Liu Luoguo's grandmother and taken in as her grandson, making him three years younger than Liu Luoguo. His name was given to him by the grandmother, and he grew up in the Liu household. At seventeen, he began following Liu Luoguo, and stayed by his side for the rest of his life, until Liu Luoguo's death. Liu An narrates the entire story, and readers see Liu Luoguo and the times they lived through from his perspective.
2. Liu Luoguo (Liu Yong)
- One of the central characters of the book. A man of exceptional talent and intelligence, he stands up to the powerful and remains upright and incorruptible at court, using his wit and abilities to handle official affairs and navigate relationships. In folk tales, he often appears as a humorous, slightly hunchbacked figure who is beloved by the common people.
3. Synopsis
Told from Liu An's perspective, the book recounts the long years he spent with Liu Luoguo, from the time Liu Luoguo was seventeen until his death.
