A small village that no one can seem to promote,
a local village chief in his fifties,
a village Party secretary transferred in from elsewhere,
a university graduate sent down by the county,
a photographer who has spent his adult life making his way out in the world,
and a hairpin maker whose craft has barely kept her fed.
At different times, they all stand before the same stone tablet and hear these words:
“Welcome, players, to your destination. Please complete the mission ahead: Rural Revitalization.”
