The Streets and Desire

Insights into the subtleties and complexities of human nature in "The Plum in the Golden Vase" "The Plum in the Golden Lotus" is an ancient book that is like a cold mirror, reflecting the intricate and mottled scenes in the depths of human nature. Its depiction of human nature is exquisite and nuanced, shocking and thought-provoking. The characters in the book are vivid and full of life, and there is no absolute distinction between good and evil. Ximen Qing, the protagonist who combines a bureaucrat, a wealthy businessman, and a bully, behaves perversely, domineering, and extravagantly. He uses any means in the business and acts wantonly in love, which fully demonstrates the evil of human nature. However, when dealing with Li Ping'er's death, he showed a rare expression of true feelings and grief, exposing the soft corners of humanity deep in his heart that had not been completely wiped out. This is especially true of Pan Jinlian. Her viciousness, jealousy and flattery are outrageous, but judging from her tragic experiences in her early years and her twisted soul under the oppression of feudal ethics, people can feel a little pity for her. She is just a poor person swallowed by the times, and her evil has become an extreme form of resistance to an unfair fate. In the entanglement of interests, the complexity of human nature is vividly displayed. In order to compete for favor and profit, Ximen Qing's wives and concubines fought openly and secretly, and intrigued each other. On the surface, they were full of laughter, but in fact, they hid mysteries. Behind their actions was their endless desire for survival resources, emotional satisfaction, and social status. Among friends, the flattery of Earl Ying and others to Ximen Qing is also based on the exchange of money and interests. Once Ximen Qing loses power, he will scatter, trampling the so-called "friendship" into worthlessness, which profoundly reveals the fragility and hypocrisy of human nature in the cold world. "Jin Ping Mei" does not avoid the ugliness, greed and selfishness in human nature, but presents them nakedly in front of readers, prompting us to reflect on the alienation and loss of human nature under the interweaving of desire, power, emotion and other factors. It is not only a literary work, but also a revelation about human nature. It allows us to see the various possibilities of human nature in a complex social environment. It always reminds us to examine ourselves and others, and to find a balance on the balance of morality, ethics and desire, so as not to fall into the dark abyss of human nature. Its value transcends the limitations of the times and has become an eternal classic of insight into human nature.
