The Scent of Oranges, Like Years Past

SC, BE, angst, starts in school and later moves to the city, with supporting characters getting more page time in the first few chapters

Their first meeting at seventeen was hardly a beautiful beginning. One was an aloof, taciturn troublemaker, the other a sensitive, stubborn beauty with an air of elegance. They thought they would take an instant dislike to each other, but instead they fell in love over time. Neither knew whose heart the other had first entered.

But life is unpredictable, and accidents always arrive before tomorrow. The two were separated for many years as a result.

At twenty-six, they unexpectedly meet again.

“Wouldn’t it be easier to just pay me back?”

“Do you think I’m short of that little bit of money?”

The regrets of their youth are finally made right on the day they reunite.

“This time, our journey won’t come to an end.”

Note: Do not treat this as a romance fantasy with the heroine or hero. The official couple must not be split up. Don’t say I’m unfair to the heroine. I torment everyone equally.

Si Youyu is my son, and Huang Chengzi is my daughter. I love them both equally.

The names weren’t chosen at random.

Si Youyu, with You pronounced like “induce,” was inspired by “At fifteen, I set my heart upon learning.”

Huang Chengzi’s name comes from Goethe’s “Mignon”:

“Do you know the land where the lemon blossoms,”

“Among dark leaves, golden oranges glow”

The characters have complex personalities and cannot be summed up in just one or two words. Please don’t worry if they seem contradictory or out of character at times. If that happens, blame my writing, not the characters.

All place names, school names, hospital names, shop names, street names, and so on are fictional. Any resemblance is purely coincidental.

This is my first novel, so please go easy on me...

Thank you for reading.
