A Hundred Years Without Crossing the Bridge of Helplessness

When she learned that her husband had intercepted yet another woman by the Yellow Springs River,

she went to the Office of the Underworld Register to erase her name, then asked Meng Po for a bowl of soup.

Everyone said that, as the exalted Emperor of the Underworld, he was entitled to a household of wives and concubines, and that her position as his favored consort was already a blessing granted by fate in a past life.

But she was only an ordinary woman.

She couldn't share her husband with anyone else.

On the day of the centennial celebration, he held the new bride's hand and beckoned to her:

“Yao Yao, from now on, you two are sisters. Get along, all right?”

Just as he thought she would accept with a smiling, gracious nod, she stepped back, bowed, and offered him one last gift.

“Your Majesty, please take good care of this marriage contract.”

“From this day on, I am no longer the favored consort of the Underworld. I am nothing but a wandering spirit.”
