In nine out of ten crime investigation novels, the opening has the female lead being told to file a report and leave the team. It’s so off-putting. They don’t even consider her abilities; they see a woman and immediately reject her. How shallow do you have to be to become a team captain? Why not think about why she was assigned to your team? What’s there to like about a man like that?
