Snow in the Northern City

On the third day of his business trip to Beicheng, Jin Jianan posted a new update on his social media feed.

The picture showed snow-covered mountains and a still lake.

It was a live photo, freshly taken, with snowflakes visibly drifting down.

But Jin Jianan had forgotten that live photos have sound.

So I clearly heard the sweet, intimate voice coming from the picture, calling him Jianan.

I turned to look at the empty apartment and the birthday cake in front of me, its candles still burning. I suddenly felt like there was no point anymore.

So, just as the candles were about to go out, I closed my eyes and made this year's wish.

Then I commented beneath Jin Jianan's post.

When are you coming back to sort out the divorce?
