Set against the backdrop of reform and opening up, this is a legendary tale of love and hate between Zhu Bajie and Gao Cuilan.
In Wu Cheng’en’s Journey to the West, there is an episode in which the travelers pass Longevity Mountain Wuzhuang Temple. Zhu Bajie happens to overhear two young Daoist attendants talking about the benefits of the Ginseng Fruit. Learning that a single fruit can grant 47,000 years of life, he persuades his senior brother Sun Wukong to steal some for them to share. As it turns out, Zhu Bajie secretly keeps one. That night, while everyone is asleep, he takes it to Gao Village and gives it to Gao Cuilan, granting her longevity and leaving open the possibility that the couple might reunite one day.
Though Gao Cuilan has gained an ageless body, she faces all kinds of challenges in her life. After Zhu Bajie leaves, she is a woman who has been taken by a “monster,” and finding a suitable husband again would only bring her grief. She resolves never to marry and devotes herself to caring for her parents. From a “cast-off woman” no one dares to marry to a “filial daughter” praised by the emperor; from a “nun” who enters the Buddhist order of her own accord to a “Daoist nun” hiding from disaster; from a “refugee” with nowhere to go to a “fairy” who dreams of visiting the heavenly palace; from a “demon” enduring constant abuse to an entrepreneur who builds a business from nothing. Her fortunes rise and fall, and she suffers every hardship, yet she remains steadfast and fights back with tenacity. Her extraordinary life is the stuff of legend, beyond anything an ordinary person could imagine.
Zhu Bajie still has unfinished business in the mortal world. At last, he gets a once-in-a-thousand-years chance to “go into business” and search for Gao Cuilan. Fortunately, the information age has arrived, and the media helps the couple reunite after being torn apart. Yet after enduring the hardships of starting a business and building their fortune, Zhu Bajie’s nature gets the better of him. In the end, he cannot resist the temptations of wealth and women, and his dream of settling his worldly ties comes to an end.
The ingenious combination of myth, fantasy and real life will give readers an immersive feeling, as if what you see is the people and things around you. However, the plot of the story is ever-changing and unpredictable.
Nice! It's interesting to tell the story from a perspective you've never thought of!
The writing style and concept are very good, comparable to bookstore novels and far better than most online writers. How come it has so few views?
