Are Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, our traditional cultures, really backward and superstitious, as so many people claim? After years of study and practice, I have found the answers I was seeking. This book is not perfect, and I hope that those who are destined to study the Way will question and examine its ideas. Believing others is superstition; believing in yourself is true faith, and that is where strength lies. When a person begins to question and reflect, they open the door to wisdom. That is the beginning of spiritual cultivation and awakening.
Our traditional culture is experiencing a revival, while various forms of metaphysical cultivation and health practices tinged with religious superstition have also risen from the ashes to stir up trouble. A society that prioritizes material progress has left more and more people caught in anxiety, confusion, and spiritual exhaustion. There is no use running from the cruelty of life. You must face it head-on and immerse yourself in it to see your way through. If you cannot see through things, you will be trapped by them and bound by karma.
Life is cultivation, and cultivation is life. Cultivation should always be joyful. If the more you cultivate, the more miserable you become and the worse your health gets, then you are definitely on the wrong path. Do not let certain people deceive you by claiming you are merely clearing karmic obstacles. Do not practice through suffering. That is like pulling up seedlings to help them grow: suffering blocks the flow of qi, while joy opens it and allows the energy of emptiness to enter. The saying "the Way follows nature" means that people should live naturally and release their true nature. Only after letting it emerge can you learn how to cultivate it. If you realize you are a flower, bloom to your heart's content. If you are a tree, stand tall and upright. If you are a thorn, fight your way through life with unyielding strength. Life is a play. Play your role well, do all you can, and leave the rest to fate. Then you will have no worries, and that is awakening.
