During the Republic of China era, a man known as “Hero Zhu” was active at Jiuyan Bridge in Chengdu. Zhu Yuchen was the leader of the local beggars, known not only for his kindness and warmth, but also for his loyalty and honor.
One day, Zhu Yuchen and his men were on their way back when they came across the Axe Gang trying to rob a wealthy young woman who had run away from an arranged marriage. Zhu Yuchen immediately stepped in to help. In the chaos, however, the woman lost consciousness. Seeing her covered in wounds with her hair in disarray, Zhu Yuchen took her back to Jiuyan Bridge, where he personally bought medicine and carefully prepared a decoction to treat her injuries.
Two days later, the woman finally woke up. At first, she was eager to leave, alarmed to find herself among beggars. But Zhu Yuchen reassured her, and she decided to stay and recuperate before making any plans.
As time passed, the woman came to recognize the kindness in the hearts of these beggars, poor though they looked. She realized that Zhu Yuchen had put himself in harm's way to save her. His attentive care made her feel warm and safe. After much reflection, she decided to give up on returning to her hypocritical family and chose instead to pursue a free life alongside Zhu Yuchen and his companions. Her arrival brought laughter and joy to the group, and as time went by, feelings gradually blossomed between her and Zhu Yuchen.
When the two were ready to marry, their companions joined forces to arrange a simple, heartwarming wedding for Zhu Yuchen...
Not long after the couple married beneath the bridge, Chengdu was liberated. Zhu Yuchen took his wife back to his hometown, where they lived a happy, self-reliant life...
