The Orphaned Girl of the Prince's Estate

“Well, if it isn't little sister Wanqing. You've certainly made yourself look presentable today, but no matter how you dress, you're still a bastard with no mother.” I recognized the sharp voice without even looking. It belonged to the second young miss, Su Wanlin. She came striding over in a lavish pink silk dress, pearls and jewels adorning her hair, a smug look on her face. A crowd of maids and older servants followed behind her, all of them looking menacing. “Elder sister, today is the old madam's birthday. Please don't cause a scene.” I fought back the humiliation I felt and spoke softly. “Hmph, cause a scene? I haven't done anything. I'm just reminding you not to embarrass yourself in front of the old madam. With your status, you think you deserve to wish her a happy birthday?” Su Wanlin looked at me with undisguised malice. “Please watch what you say, elder sister. The old madam has always been kind. She won't mind such things.” I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms, but kept up a calm facade.
