In the 19th year of the Republic of China (1930), continuous floods, droughts, locust plagues and plagues caused tens of millions of deaths in eight northwestern provinces within three years. The poor people were forced to engage in the days of "selling their wives and children". "Human markets" appeared in many places. Husbands sold their wives and fathers sold their daughters. There were people who went to the market to sell their goods with straw tags on their heads. The highest value is more than 20 yuan, and the lowest value is only four or five yuan. One person cannot exchange for a bucket of food. When the separation of flesh and blood was finalized, men cried and women howled, their livers and lungs were torn, and some fainted and fell to the ground, dying immediately. The situation was so tragic that it was heartbreaking.
