The story is conceived as a follow-up to Journey to the West, in which the king of the Daughter Kingdom misses Tang Monk and becomes ill, gradually turning into a black man, causing all life to be devastated. After being rescued by his brother Yu, his younger brother attains enlightenment and becomes an immortal.
