Name: The Turn of Guiguzi
Author: Zi Yin

Synopsis

Guiguzi is said to have been a native of Chu during the Warring States period. Accounts of his name vary: some say his surname was Wang and his given name Xu, while others say his surname was Wang and his given name Chan. He lived in seclusion in Guigu, called himself Guiguzi, and was honored as the "Patriarch Wang Chan." Here is a detailed introduction:

Life

Guiguzi's life is shrouded in mystery. According to legend, he endured many hardships as a child and resolved to unite the land and end the chaos. He once hoped to put his talents to use in various states, but was targeted out of jealousy and framed. After escaping, he withdrew to Guigu, where he took on disciples and taught. His students, including Sun Bin, Pang Juan, Su Qin, and Zhang Yi, all played important roles on the historical stage of their time.

Philosophical Thought

Guiguzi was a leading figure and the founder of the School of Diplomacy. His thought is chiefly recorded in the book Guiguzi. This theoretical work of the pre-Qin School of Diplomacy covers a wide range of subjects, including politics, military affairs, and foreign relations. It focuses mainly on strategies of attack and defense, emphasizing practical interests, the art of maneuvering between states, and the techniques of persuasion. It also offers incisive, profound explanations of dialectical materialist ideas, such as the Way of Opening and Closing, "recognizing the significant in the subtle and preventing trouble before it arises," and "analyzing each problem according to its specific circumstances."

Historical Influence

As the only theoretical work left by the School of Diplomacy, Guiguzi has a distinctive place in traditional Chinese culture and has had a profound influence on fields such as governance, military affairs, and diplomacy. Its ideas have attracted attention not only in China but also among scholars around the world, and have been studied and applied in many countries. German thinker Oswald Spengler and American diplomat Henry Kissinger, for example, both spoke highly of Guiguzi and his ideas. Japan, the Philippines, and other countries have also established related research institutions.

I'm out of books to read. I don't have many requirements, and it doesn't matter if there's a female lead or not. Just no harem or womanizer stories. I simply don't like books with multiple female leads or lots of romance.
