A slow-burn fantasy horror story. While there are magical and supernatural elements sprinkled here and there, much of the story's inspiration comes from actual historical medicine, set in an exotic world that developed somewhere between Sumerian and Roman times.
When a deadly plague breaks out in a metropolitan desert trading post called Ashe, the city's oligarchic ruling class summons a healer to uncover its cause and nature. Hippocrates the Healer was an intelligent and skilled practitioner of medicine, although he was challenged by the almost supernatural nature of the plague and the town's lack of medical knowledge. With the help of Jael, a taciturn mercenary with a mysterious past, Hippocrates is forced to navigate local politics, ancient superstitions, and even the harsh desert environment in order to contain the plague before it becomes an epidemic.
