The Red Years of an Educated Youth

The novel "Red Youth" tells the story of a group of students, aged just 16 to 19, who had recently graduated from school. Responding to the Party's call to "go where the motherland needs us most and receive re-education from the poor and lower-middle peasants," they set out for remote, barren mountain villages to live and work among the rural people. Full of hope for the future and determined to be self-reliant, they held to the simple belief that they could make even a small contribution to the countryside.

They endured unimaginable hardships and learned nearly every kind of farm work. Leaving home at such a young age, they overcame the pain of missing their families, the exhaustion of labor, and the hardships of daily life, growing stronger with every passing day.

They experienced every kind of joy and sorrow, yet never gave up on contributing their knowledge and abilities to poor mountain villages and their farmers. They let the fiery brilliance of their youth shine as it should.

Every chapter of this novel tells a compelling story, giving readers a detailed look at the work and daily life in the countryside in those days. Readers who lived through that era will find memories and echoes of their own experiences, while younger readers will come to appreciate the happiness they enjoy today. This is a wonderful work worth savoring slowly.
