[Centered on the Fan Yin and Que couple, interspersed with seven side-story arcs]
Fan Yin is a wish-granting turtle in the Meng Po Pool. Her day-to-day job is to help ghosts who still have regrets from their past lives let go of their obsessions.
For nearly a century, the human world has been plagued by war and disaster, and the Underworld has grown more and more crowded with incoming ghosts. Even the endlessly replenished Meng Po Pool is running desperately low.
And so Fan Yin, who had been lying flat and coasting in the pool, was forced to shoulder the Underworld's ever-increasing performance targets.
And it's not just her. The other underworld workers are even more competitive.
By comparison, her job is simple and provides plenty of emotional support, though every now and then things go a little sideways.
For example:
One day,
Fan Yin was curled up in her shell, sleeping soundly, when someone gently lifted her from the pool with both hands.
He wore white, with vivid red blood butterflies climbing along the hem of his robes, and layers of silver chains around his waist, chiming in the breeze.
His face was strikingly sharp, his white hair cold and dazzling, yet his phoenix eyes were as tender as water.
With a warm, spring-breeze voice, he asked with a smile, "I want to die. Can you grant that wish?"
