Baoyu had failed to sever his ties to the mortal world while at the temple, so he decided to return to secular life. By then, the Jia household had been confiscated and had lost its former glory. Jia Zheng was worried, Jia She had passed away, Jia Lian was constantly on the go, and Wang Xifeng was gravely ill. Baochai held the household together. After enduring many hardships, Baoyu returned and discussed rebuilding the family fortunes with Jia Lian. They started by running shops. Business was slow at first, but improved as they continued to make changes. Conflicts within the family persisted, and Baoyu did his best to mediate. After the Xue family cast Xiangling aside, Baoyu brought her back to the Jia household. Tanchun returned from her distant marriage and lent a hand. The business gradually prospered, and Jia Lian’s disposition changed as well.
Yet Baoyu became troubled by questions about the meaning of life. Just then, a mysterious visitor revealed a secret: the Jia household held a treasure. As they searched for it, they encountered one danger after another, only to discover that the so-called treasure was a letter left by an ancestor of the Jia family, urging future generations to uphold what was right. Baoyu experienced a spiritual awakening and decided to reveal the truth. After reflecting on it, the family took on a new mission to restore their fortunes, opening a school and taking part in charitable work.
Baoyu faced a difficult choice in love. After speaking separately with Baochai and Daiyu, he chose to be with Daiyu, and Baochai gave them her blessing. Their union brought the family closer together. When foreign enemies invaded, Baoyu led the Jia household in organizing a militia to defend their home. After fighting through the ravages of war, they finally drove the invaders back. In the aftermath, they helped rebuild the capital and welcomed a new era of prosperity.
Baoyu and Daiyu had children after marrying, and devoted themselves to raising them and passing down the family’s culture. As they grew old, they looked back on the past and reflected on life. In the end, they passed away peacefully. Their story became an enduring legend of the Jia household, inspiring generations to come.
