My grandfather, Chen Dong, courtesy name Ziyue, grew up beyond the passes and made his start among the greenwood outlaws. With nothing but his iron-blooded resolve, he became the uncrowned king of Nanjiang.
His story is hidden in old letters and antique guns, filled with war, loyalty, and political intrigue.
Following in my grandfather’s footsteps, I retrace those years of gunfire and smoke, uncover the iron-blooded secrets of the warlord era, and shoulder the glory and responsibility passed down by my ancestors.
This is no ordinary life story. It is an epic history of a warlord family spanning a century.
