Once upon a time, there was a mountain called Xinglin. Pear blossoms grew all over it, and the residents ate peaches in every season. A couple lived there and raised three children:
The eldest: skilled in the art of poison insects and all sorts of other talents, the child every parent points to as an example.
The second: great at fighting and highly skilled in martial arts, but with no other talents; an expert at cheating, swindling, and conning people, the sort of child parents worry about.
The youngest: skilled in medicine, clever and well-behaved, and good at all sorts of things, a child who never gives the parents anything to worry about.
One day, the couple went off to enjoy some time alone. The unreliable second child then ran off down the mountain with the youngest in tow, leaving the all-capable eldest exhausted as they went to look for them.
After all that running around, it became clear that the unreliable one would always be unreliable, and it was up to the capable and clever ones to clean up the messes.
