In the final years of the Qing Dynasty, the world was in turmoil and ordinary people’s lives were falling apart. People struggled through poverty and hardship, while their desires grew without limit. Rumors of a soul pawnshop spread quietly among the people. This mysterious place was said to grant any wish, but only in exchange for an equivalent price.
The final years of the Qing Dynasty were hard. Han Nuo, a gifted scholar who never got his due, suffered one family misfortune after another. In despair, he heard the tales of the soul pawnshop and decided to seek it out in hopes of changing his fate. Chosen by the Shadow, Han Nuo became the pawnshop’s owner, overseeing dark dealings alongside his assistant, A Jing. Through these transactions, Han Nuo witnessed the cruelty and sorrow of human nature, and gradually began to regret his choices. The Shadow sensed his doubts and put pressure on him, while Gao Han, who had grown up under the Shadow’s care, was considered his successor. When Han Nuo broke the rules to save someone sincere, the Shadow punished him severely, and A Jing rebelled. Moved by his conscience, Gao Han joined forces with them. With the help of righteous allies such as Dong Qing, they fought the Shadow in a final battle and broke the curse. Afterward, they devoted themselves to redeeming the souls they had once harmed.
