The youngest son of the powerful Jing family in Yanjing had been frail and sickly since birth.

Later, Master Kongming of Fanxing Temple gave him some guidance, saying, “The karma of a past life: when Ting Siwu comes of age, he may return one ‘thing’ and reap a good outcome.”

“After a thousand years of frost and snow, of partings, love, and hate, the day of fulfillment will come at last.”

“Young benefactor, your past and present lives have converged. Someone from your past has returned.”

“Your soul is whole once more. This is a new beginning, and your body will slowly recover.”

Ting Siwu held the lotus Master Kongming had given him, momentarily stunned.

The waters of Hanshan Pond rippled in the wind. Pale white, soft pink, a streak of flowing light: blossoms spilled across the water.

After a long pause, he lowered his eyes to the lively lotus seedling in the pot and poked one of its leaves, his voice soft and tender. “I hope you grow up quickly and bloom!”

Perhaps when the flower blooms,

the person he is waiting for will finally return to his side.
