May We Be Strangers in This Life

I had to urgently fill in for a colleague and perform a C-section.

The woman brought in to give birth turned out to be my girlfriend of six years.

Nervous yet hopeful, she started a video call:

"Honey, I'm so scared. You have to stay with me."

"Remember to tell Mom and Dad not to tell Zhiyin about the baby for now."

Just minutes earlier, she'd promised me she'd marry me as soon as she returned from studying abroad.

Now I had to deliver her baby with my own hands.

Nothing hurts more than a heart that has given up.

I submitted my application to study abroad.

From then on, we would be strangers, with no further contact.
