Return to the Wind

Five years later, Ruan Nian stood before Jiang Mo's gravestone and said, “Do you know why my pen name is Sui Feng? Sui Feng sounds like ‘with the wind.’ I hope the wishes in my heart and the knots left unresolved can be entrusted to the wind, so it can tell the person I love.”

On the gravestone, there was nothing but a bouquet of chrysanthemums and a single yellowed white rag doll.

From that flutter of the heart in the equipment room at the start of summer to the end, when illness took its toll, everything was given to the wind and vanished into it. Perhaps the wind carried it to the place they had dreamed of. Perhaps spending the rest of their lives together with the person they loved would have been their happiest ending. But how often does life grant us all we wish for? Only by entrusting it to the wind can wishes come true.
