It is said that when chaos first began, nine Primordial Treasures came into being. These nine treasures were extraordinary and mysterious. According to Ji Yuan, every one of them had a spirit born with it as soon as it took shape. Each spirit had a personality and mannerisms just like a human. Once a Primordial Treasure acknowledged someone as its master, it would transform directly into their bonded weapon. If its master fell, the weapon would be destroyed. No new one would ever come into being. Each treasure also possessed its own marvelous powers. Legend had it that anyone favored by even one could achieve eternal life. With two or more, the path to immortality would be smooth sailing.
There was no concept of time or order in chaos. After the nine Primordial Treasures took shape, they scattered and vanished, their whereabouts and forms unknown. Then signs of life began to appear in the chaos, and all kinds of creatures came into being. They differed greatly in appearance and form. Among them was one being who, from the moment of its birth, looked more like a human than any other. Its breathing was steady, and chaos energy surrounded it with every breath, collapsing and reforming in turn.
Then the being suddenly awoke. Its gaze was deep as it looked around at the hazy grayness. It raised its head, as if lost in thought. Suddenly, its right hand clenched around empty air, and a dark-gray great axe took shape in its grasp. Its left hand reached for the axe, and it lifted the weapon above its head. With a muffled grunt, it brought the axe down.
When the scene appeared again, the being was gone. Only a glimmer of light remained. Looking up, one could see a vast blue expanse, called the sky. Looking down, one saw something solid and weighty, called the earth. Yet after the Chaos Demon God split the sky from the earth, not one of the nine Primordial Treasures could be found. Perhaps they had scattered elsewhere, waiting for the destined ones to find them.
