This novel turns its attention to the many unfinished buildings around us. Perhaps the unfinished buildings are only the surface; the people behind them are the real story. The novel explores deceit and intrigue within business operations, the shifting fortunes of the marketplace, and the dark side of human nature, while also depicting some of the real estate industry’s lesser-known unwritten rules. The protagonist, Qian Jinnan, is both ghost and human. Tested by capital, he journeys from obsession and madness to a sudden awakening, then takes on capital and does everything he can to help the people trapped by unfinished projects. He experiences two extremes along the way. Family bonds, romance, and friendship are woven into the story, which blends realism with the fantastical and ultimately ends in keeping with the moral principle that good triumphs over evil.
