Qin Shi Huang, Ying Zheng, was an emperor for the ages in Chinese history. His achievements, including unifying the six states, standardizing weights and measures and written script, and building the Great Wall, profoundly influenced China's feudal society and are still praised today.
Yet in his youth, Ying Zheng lived for years as a puppet ruler. It was not until the ninth year of his reign, when he was twenty-two, that he came of age and took power.
This novel tells the story of Ying Zheng before and after he took control of the government. Through extensive inner monologues, it portrays an emperor who is both timid and resolute, both cruel and bloodthirsty and kind and approachable.
The book is okay, there are a thousand Qin Wang Yingzheng for every thousand authors
The book is not long, but it is written with great care. Especially the protagonist Ying Zheng is very complex and down-to-earth, unlike many previous novels that deified Ying Zheng. It deserves five stars.
