Always in My Heart

[Last-place class troublemaker × cool, abstinent top student]

You’re always in my heart; I’ll never forget you, year after year.

When they broke up, Shen Shi stood on the steps and looked down at him. A faint look of contempt showed in her eyes, and her tone was more mocking than ever. “Anyone in this courtyard is better than you. You’re just an illegitimate son. What makes you think you’re worthy?”

He stared at her in silence, his gaze dark.

Six years later, at a disguised matchmaking dinner arranged by her older brother, the once cool and abstinent young man had a carefree look in his eyes. Two buttons of his shirt were undone, exposing his beautiful Adam’s apple and collarbones. He was dangerously sexy as he pinned her in a dim corner, one hand at her waist and the other restraining her. His voice was slightly hoarse. “Look at all those people outside. Is any one of them better than me?”

On Shen Shi’s birthday, Ms. Shen, who got drunk after one glass, insisted on showing off in front of the boy she liked. After one huge mug of beer, she saw double.

She grabbed Song Zai by the arm and whispered, “Did you bring me a present?”

Song Zai looked at her, drunk as a kitten. He squeezed the gift box in his pocket again and again, but still shook his head against his better judgment.

Unexpectedly, the girl raised her arms, hooked them around the back of his neck, and pulled him down. The scent of alcohol mingled with roses as it washed over him, followed by her soft, warm lips.

A brief kiss, then she pulled away.

Amid the pounding of his heart, he heard her say softly, “That kiss is your present.”
