Lin Yu’s Career in Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine has had a bumpy road in the modern era. Although the government has paid it increasing attention and introduced a series of support policies, its development still faces many challenges. Diagnostic methods such as inspection, listening and smelling, inquiry, and palpation have become more widely used and accepted, but their promotion still encounters many misunderstandings and obstacles.

The protagonist, Lin Yu, was born into a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. His father is a respected local doctor, while his mother helps him run the clinic. Lin Yu grew up learning from his father, who taught him to be cautious in every aspect of practicing medicine and to treat patients with compassion.

Under his father’s strict standards and careful guidance, Lin Yu developed a cautious and meticulous nature. Thanks to his remarkable talent and tireless effort, he excelled at the college of traditional Chinese medicine and became one of the school’s most outstanding students. But his success made some of his classmates jealous. Shortly before graduation, these ill-intentioned students secretly resorted to underhanded tactics, spreading malicious rumors about Lin Yu wherever they went. As a result, he was shunned when internship placements were assigned, and no reputable medical institution was willing to take him in.

With no other choice, Lin Yu returned to his hometown to take over the small traditional Chinese medicine clinic his grandfather had left behind. Though somewhat run-down, it embodies his grandfather’s life’s work and hopes. Lin Yu knows the weight of the responsibility on his shoulders. He is determined to use what he has learned to revive the clinic and contribute to the preservation and development of traditional Chinese medicine.
