One night, while observing strange activity in the city from his balcony, Bai Fan was struck between the brows by a beam of white light. He then learned that it was a Heavenly-Rank spirit artifact, whose artifact spirit turned out to be an old man he knew for his amazing egg fried rice. The old man said he would take Bai Fan around to eat every kind of demon beast in the world and set him on the path to becoming a spirit chef.
